In July 2023, KN and her son celebrated KN’s three years of housing stability thanks to the Foster Youth to Independence Housing Choice Voucher (FYI) and the Housing Authority of Brevard County (HABC). WAYS for Life, along with HABC, assisted KN with obtaining an FYI voucher which assists former foster youth with rent payments. With the FYI voucher in hand, HABC leased one of their apartments to KN in June 2020. The FYI voucher, coupled with a safe affordable place to live, gave KN the ability to get a job and further her education.
During the past three years, KN worked full time in various fast food restaurants. In 2023, she enrolled in the Economic Development Commission of Florida Space Coast’s Pre-apprentice Manufacturing program where she attended night classes online. She recently passed all four tests and received her certificate. She is currently applying for manufacturing positions as well as enrolling in engineering classes at Eastern Florida State College.
