Learning to Drive

We are proud to share the success story of a member, a 17-year-old unaccompanied youth who was experiencing homelessness. He became one of our dedicated members and has shown incredible determination and perseverance in achieving his goals.

He graduated from our GED program in May, passing all four tests between May 1st and May 16th. This remarkable accomplishment is a testament to his hard work and commitment to furthering his education.

In addition to his academic achievements, he enrolled in the Keys 2 Independence program in March. Through this program, he registered for the online TLSAE (Traffic Law and Substance Abuse Education) and learner's license courses. After successfully passing both tests and earning his learner's license, he is now scheduled to receive six hours of driving instruction. He will also have access to the driving school's vehicle to take his road test and earn his driver's license.

To support his continued success, the Keys 2 Independence program will pay the first six months of auto insurance, ensuring he and other drivers on the road are protected. This incredible opportunity is made possible by WAYS' collaboration with the Keys 2 Independence organization which is dedicated to empowering youth experiencing homelessness or foster care to become licensed and insured drivers.

This member's story is a powerful reminder of what can be achieved with the right support and resources. We are incredibly proud of his accomplishments and look forward to seeing all that he will achieve in the future.
